Wyoming State AA American Legion Baseball Tournament Opens Wednesday / Rockies fall at St. Louis / Kendrick Club Championship is This Weekend

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL STATE TOURNAMENT - The Sheridan Troopers open post season play tomorrow at the Wyoming State "AA" American Legion tournament in Casper, the Troops open against the Jackson Giants it will be the first game of the tournament and is scheduled to get underway at 10:00.

Monday morning the Troops went through one of their final practices of the season Head coach Ben Phillips says the plan is to stay sharp before the opener tomorrow.

It's tournament baseball and traditionally the team that can get the best starting pitching is the team with the best shot at wining as state title and Phillips says they have the guys to do it and just have to be mentally ready for face the intensity of state tournament baseball.

Timely hitting is another big factor being able to generate runs with two outs, the Troops are coming off a walk off victory Saturday when they loaded the bases and got a clutch at bat from Nolan McCafferty and he says they need more of that this week.

Other first round games tomorrow will have Rock Springs taking on Gillette, Cheyenne plays Evanston and Laramie will play Casper.

ROCKIES BASEBALL - The Colorado Rockies lost 8-2 at the St. Louis Cardinals Monday night here's the wrap up. You can hear the game live on sports talk 87.7 FM Rockies on deck will start at 5:40.

LOCAL GOLF - Kendrick golf course will host the annual Kendrick club championship this weekend the tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday they have tee times between 8 and 10 am the fee is 50 dollars per player.

The tournament is flighted by handicap and they will also have a youth division for ages 9-13 to get signed up stop by the golf shop at Kendrick golf course.

FALL HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS - The 2017-18 high school sports season starts in less than two weeks any junior high and high school athletes are asked to get sports physicals complete as soon as possible they are mandatory to be able to begin practice.

The Sheridan Bronc football team opens camp August 7th the Big Horn Rams and Tongue River Eagles open camp Wednesday August 9th.

Fall tennis and golf open August 7th with Girls swimming, Cross country and Volleyball opening August 14th.

The opening weekend of the regular season is August 25th and 26th the Broncs open the football season at home against Rock Springs on the 25th.
