Steven Yellowtail Signs with South Dakota Tech

RAPID CITY --- T he national signing period for college basketball has begun, the South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team is off to a great start as head coach Jason Henry is pleased to announce the addition of Stephen Yellowtail to the Hardrockers' roster for next year.

Yellowtail is a 6-foot-2-inch shooting guard from Dayton, Wyo., who was a standout player for the Tongue River High School Eagles. He was named the conference player of the year both as a junior and senior and is also the second all-time scoring leader for the Eagles with 1,411 points in his four-year career. As a senior he averaged over 19 points a game and over 20 points a contest as a junior. Yellowtail is also a three-time Wyoming All-State and All-Conference honoree (2010-12).

"Stephen is a special basketball player and a phenomenal person in general," Henry said. "He's been averaging over 15 points a game since he was a sophomore and earned countless conference and state honors his entire high school basketball career. I am excited to see what he will do as a Hardrocker and how he'll perform at the (NCAA) Div. II level."

While attending South Dakota Mines, Yellowtail plans to pursue a degree in Industrial Engineering.

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has a proud heritage of preparing graduates to serve as leaders in engineering and science. At the School of Mines every student has the opportunity to participate in research and test classroom learning through hands-on experience.
