Sheridan College Kicks Off Spring Rodeo Season in Gillette

The first college rodeo of the spring season was held in Gillette on March 20th-22nd.

The Generals didn’t quite have the start of the spring season that they were looking for. Among the team, there were four athletes who made it back to Sunday’s championship round.

For the women’s team, Katy Miller put together a quick run in the goat tying with a time of 7.8 which split 3/4/5 place in the long go. Miller had some tough luck in the short go as the goat kicked free which gave her a no time.

Kaylee Reimler had a fast run in the barrel racing as she clocked a 14.68 which gave her another chance to run on Sunday in the short go. The short go didn’t go as planned for Reimler as she hit two barrels which added 10 seconds to her time.

For the men’s team Cody Trainor and Dayton Johnston were the two who competed in the short go on Sunday. Trainor placed 4th in the long go of the calf roping with a smooth time of 11.5 seconds.

In the short go Trainor had another nice run but left the box a little early and broke the barrier which added 10 seconds to his time. He still placed in the short go and average earning more points.

Johnston was competing at the opposite end of the arena as Trainor as he competed in the bull riding. Johnston had a great ride scoring 72 points which won the long go. Johnston drew another good bull in the short go but didn’t make the 8 second whistle for a qualified ride.

The Sheridan Generals will practice up this week in preparation to travel to Torrington this weekend.
There are four college rodeos left this spring:
Torrington (March 27-29)
Fort Collins, CO (April 10-12)
Casper (April 17-19)
Laramie (May 1-3)
