The Sheridan College Rodeo team traveled to Fort Collins, CO this past Thursday to compete at the Colorado State University Rodeo.

The men’s team finished the weekend 4th behind EWC, University of Wyoming and Casper College respectively.

The men’s team is now sitting 5th in the region with 1955 team points. This places us 5th in the region behind EWC, UW, Gillette and Casper, all very tough and talented teams.

For the men Taygen Schuelke stepped up and won the bullriding again this weekend. There were 30 bullriders entered this weekend and only 3 made qualified rides in the long round. Taygen scored 73 points to win the round but was bucked off in the short round, as was the other two bullriders giving Taygen the average win.

With this win Taygen has now secured the number 1 spot in the region in the bullriding. Taygen earned 120 team points.

CJ Davidson was one of the three to make a qualified ride in the bullriding scoring 69 points. CJ got on a rank bull in the short round and was bucked off at the whistle.

He placed second in the long round and second in the average, earning a total of 100 team points. CJ is now tied for 3rd and 4th place in the region in the bullriding.

Zeke Thurston placed 3rd in the Saddle Bronc riding with a score of 70 points, but he was unable to get his short round bronc rode.

Zeke earned 30 team points finishing 8th in the average. Zeke also teamed up with team mate Laine Hanson and roped their team roping steer in 8.4 seconds placing them 5th in the round, but they were unable to get their short round steer roped and ended up placing 6th in the average earning the team 30 points.

Shane Stevens split 5th and 6th in the bareback riding in the long round with a 71 point score. Shane was 70 points in the short round and placed 6th in the round, he earned 25 team points.

Team mate Tate Schwagler also rode in the long round and scored 65 points placing him 8th in the round. Tate’s short round horse wasn’t good enough to place in the round and he scored 63 points and ended up 10th in the average.

Logan Schaper had a good weekend in the steer wrestling he threw his long round steer in 4.3 seconds which was fast enough to win the long round.

It was Logan’s first college win, but he missed his steer in the short round and placed 5th in the average. There were only 4 steer wrestlers out of 10 in the short round to catch and throw their steers.

On the Women’s side Laine Hanson roped fast enough in the long round to place 5th she roped her breakaway calf in 3.3 seconds.

There were 88 entries in the breakaway roping and there was only 9/10ths of a second between 1st place and 10th place!! Laine went for the win in the short round but missed her calf, she earned 20 team points for the women.

Cady Halverson had another good run in the barrel racing splitting 6th place in the long round with a time of 14.73 seconds the winning time in the round was 14.59.

In the long round her horse ran hard but had a little trouble with the first barrel, which took her out of the round and the average she ended up 9th in the average.

This week the rodeo team is headed to Torrington, WY for the 3rd rodeo of the spring season.
