WESTON JOHNSON FUNDRAISER - The Sheridan high school football coaches along with the SHS booster club will be kicking off a fund raising event Thursday night at the Sheridan high school basketball games to benefit football assistant coach Weston Johnson as he battles Melanoma.

Head coach Don Julian has close ties with Johnson as he was part of the recruiting process that brought Johnson to UW to play football.

Julian says Johnson's battle with Melanoma started years ago when he was still in high school in Colorado.


1-A / 2-A REGIONAL HOOPS - The post season begins Thursday for Tongue River, Big Horn and Arvada/Clearmont basketball teams.

TR is hosting their regional the Lady Rams will open the tournament with Burns that game is scheduled to lead off the day at 10:00 the Lady Eagles play Pine Bluffs in the late game at 8:00 pm.

The Eagles will play Pine Bluffs at 3:30 and the Rams will play Southeast at 6:30.

BRONC / LADY BRONC HOOPS - The Sheridan Lady Broncs swept the Cheyenne schools over the weekend they nipped East by two Friday and blew out Central Saturday.

Head coach Sean Yeager says the players avoided a let down after the big win Friday night and played well in the win over Central Saturday afternoon.

And he says the game Saturday was one they had to win to stay in the chase for the conference title.


Helton sorry for DUI, ready to move forward in '13

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Colorado first baseman Todd Helton has apologized for his drunken driving arrest, saying on Sunday following the Rockies' first full-squad workout at spring training that he had never done it before.

Helton acknowledged he got behind the wheel after drinking. He asked for forgiveness, and also addressed teammates.

Manager Walt Weiss and several coaches watched as Helton fielded questions for nearly 10 minutes.


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - No woman had ever captured the pole for any race in NASCAR's premier circuit until Danica Patrick's performance in Sunday's qualifying session for the Daytona 500.

Patrick was the eighth driver to post a qualifying time, finishing in 45.817 seconds and averaging 196.434 mph. Jeff Gordon was the only other driver to top 196 mph in qualifying, giving him the other spot in the front row for next Sunday's race.

HOUSTON (AP) - Chris Paul came away with MVP honors after the West beat the East 143-138 in the NBA All-Star game in Houston last night.
