Hawks go 1-2 at Wyoming state hockey championships

SHERIDAN, WY—The Sheridan Hawks High School team played their last games of the season at the State Tournament in Rock Springs last weekend.

The team ended the season in sixth place in the tournament with one win and two losses. The team lost a heart-breaker in the first game losing in overtime 6 to 5 to Pinedale.

They then defeated Gillette 13 to 1 and then lost to Casper 5 to 3 on Saturday evening. The Hawks ended the season with a 12-5-2 record. Senior Jess Edens earned All-State Honors as a defenseman.

n the first game on Friday, the Hawks lost a tough game in overtime by a score of 6 to 5, outshooting Pinedale 28 to 26. The team was led by Bryson Miranda who had three goals. Jess Edens had a goal and two assists; Logan Churchill had a goal; and Cody Townsend had two assists, with Barak Broad and Brice Beisher had one assist each.

On Saturday afternoon the Hawks dominated the Gillette Wild by a score of 13 to 1. 13 different players had points in that game led by Riley Simmons with two goals and two assists; then Jess Edens and Jace Rustad with two goals each.

On Saturday evening the Hawks came up short with a 5 to 3 loss to Casper. Jess Edens, Logan Churchill and Thomas Moore each scored a goal.
“We had a tough weekend to end the season.

After the first loss we were placed in the bracket where the best we could finish was fifth. We started each game slow and took too many penalties and had to work extra hard to stay in the Pinedale and Casper games. The team never quit, but as they say, we ran out of time,” stated Head Coach Zane Garstad.

Jess Edens took ended his high school career leading the Hawks with 30 points this season as the team captain. “Jess had a great hockey career in Sheridan and is one of the best players we have seen in our program; better yet, Jess is a first-class individual and will be missed,” stated the Sheridan Coaching Staff.
