Helton sorry for DUI, ready to move forward in '13

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Colorado first baseman Todd Helton has apologized for his drunken driving arrest, saying on Sunday following the Rockies' first full-squad workout at spring training that he had never done it before.

Helton acknowledged he got behind the wheel after drinking. He asked for forgiveness, and also addressed teammates.

Manager Walt Weiss and several coaches watched as Helton fielded questions for nearly 10 minutes.


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - No woman had ever captured the pole for any race in NASCAR's premier circuit until Danica Patrick's performance in Sunday's qualifying session for the Daytona 500.

Patrick was the eighth driver to post a qualifying time, finishing in 45.817 seconds and averaging 196.434 mph. Jeff Gordon was the only other driver to top 196 mph in qualifying, giving him the other spot in the front row for next Sunday's race.

HOUSTON (AP) - Chris Paul came away with MVP honors after the West beat the East 143-138 in the NBA All-Star game in Houston last night.

The Buffalo High School wrestling team hosted the 3A East Regional Tournament this past weekend, and as a team finished in 8th place.

Many of our local sports teams were in action action this past weekend. Here are the results.

In Girls Basketball the #4 Sheridan High School Lady Broncs beat Cheyenne East 66 to 64, and Cheyenne Central 53 to 27.
#1 Tongue River won both of their games with the Lady Eagles winning against Greybull 60 to 27, and Sundance by a score of 56 to 34.
The Big Horn Lady Rams defeated Sundance 45 to 35.
And the Arvada Clearmont girls team lost a close one to Hulett 32 to 29.


BRONC / LADY BRONC HOOPS - The Sheridan Lady Broncs play at home tonight against Cheyenne East and Central tomorrow the Broncs play on the road.

It's a big weekend for the Broncs Head coach Gale Smith says they are winnable games. And a couple victories could give the Broncs a big boost up in the conference standings.

Next week the regular season ends hosting games with Gillette those games are next week on Thursday games will be at 5:30 and 7:30.

COWBOY HOOPS - The Wyoming Cowboys beat the Nevada Wolf Pack last night 68-48 to run their record to 17-7 overall and 3-7 in Mountain West conference play.

Leonard Washington led the way with 16 points 12 rebounds 5 steals and 3 blocked shots and says the cowboys defense carried them to the victory.

The Pokes host Fresno state Saturday afternoon we will have the game live for on 14-10 KWYO pregame begins at 1:30 wit the tip at 2:00.

COWGIRL HOOPS - The Cowgirls won 66-65 to go to 19-4 on the season and 9-2 in conference play.

COWBOY BASKETBALL - The Wyoming Cowboys host the Nevada Wolf Pack tonight the cowboys won at Reno 58-49 the first time the two teams played Head coach Larry Shyatt says the Pokes were fortunate to win that game.

And he says at this time of year every league game is hard to win.
