The Buffalo Bison hung tough for one half before the Douglas Bearcats pulled away in the second half to win the Class 3A State Championship in football Friday afternoon in Laramie.

Jace Jensen of Buffalo scored the first two touchdowns in the first quarter to give the Bison a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

From that point on it was pretty much all Douglas Bearcats. Douglas scored twice in the second quarter to tie the game 14-14 at the half.

Buffalo got the ball first in the second half and on their first possession, a Hayden Kessler pass went through Wyatt Witty's hands and was intercepted by a Douglas defender, setting the Bearcats up with a first and goal inside the Bison 1-yard line. Douglas scored, but the extra point kick sailed wide right, and the Bearcats led 20-14.

The next possession for Buffalo ended in a punt, and Douglas returned it to the Bison 4-yard line.
Buffalo held the Bearcats on three downs and Douglas opted to try a field goal, which was good. Unfortuneately, a Bison defender ran into the kicker, giving the Bearcats a first and goal inside the Bison 1.

Douglas scored on second down, but the two-point conversion failed, giving the Bearcats a 26-14 lead.

The Bison had opportunities to score in the final quarter but just could not get the momentum to swing back their way, and the Douglas Bearcats held on for the win and the State Championship in Class 3A.
