FOOTBALL - Sheridan High School football camp continues at Homer Scott Stadium, and with Major League Baseball looking at its 2nd half, the sports world starts to look ahead to football. NFL camps will start in the next two weeks; the Wyoming Cowboys are a few weeks away from opening their first fall camp with new head coach Dave Christensen, and the Sheridan Broncs are 25 days away from opening pre-season drills. Big Horn, Tongue River and NSI will open their practices a week later.

This week, the Broncs are holding camp with a one-hour session for elementary and junior high players. The Broncs will then take the field at 6 o'clock. Head coach Don Julian says the players have been excited to get together on the field. The team camp takes place Thursday, and Julian explains they are trying to build this camp for an inexpensive alternative for area teams

And with pre-season drills less than a month away, it's time for the players and coaches to start amping up momentum so they can hit the ground running August 10th. The Broncs open at home August 28th against Casper Kelly Walsh. One final note: Julian reminds all Sheridan High School fall athletes to get their sports physicals done before practices open next month.

Big Horn, Tongue River and NSI open September 4th; the Rams open at home with Greybull and the Eagles open at home against Hulett. The league has changed, and 2-A football has been split into two conferences with Glenrock, Burns, Moorcroft, Newcastle, Thermopolis and Wright joining the Rams and Eagles in the 2-A East. NSI will play in the 1-A East; the Wolves open the season at home against Rocky Mountain.

The Denver Broncos open training camp July 31st; the first pre-season is at San Francisco August 14th. The regular season opens September 13th at Cincinnatti.

The Wyoming Cowboys open the season with a home game September 5th against Weber State. The highlight to the Pokes' 2009 home schedule has national championship contender Texas playing in Laramie September 12th.

VOLLEYBALL - Volleyball camps are coming up at Sheridan College July 27-30. The morning session from 8 to noon is for K - 5th graders; the afternoon session will run from 1 to 5 for 6th - 12th grades. The Lady Generals will host a pre-season training camp with junior high and high school players that will run over two weeks. The dates will be August 5th, 6th and 7th and the 10th, 11th and 12th.

POLO - The 2009 season of High Goal polo is underway at the Flying “H” Polo Ranch. They play matches tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1 o'clock. Saturday they play the “Century 21” Cup at 1 o'clock . The Flying “H” has matches every Thursday and Saturday afternoons, with the season running through August 22nd.

HERSHEY TRACK - The National Hershey Track and Field Championships will be held in Hershey, Pennsylvania July 31st through August 3rd. Five Wyoming kids will participate. Three will compete in the 11-12-year-old age group: they are Taten Knight from Green River, Lauren Taubert from Casper and Desire Salaz from Cheyenne. The 13-14-year-olds are Tichun Wilburn from Gillette and Jerayah Davis from Casper.
