The tipple stands as the last readily visible remains of The Black Diamond (coal) Mine located one-half mile north of Big Goose Road on Owl Creek Road. With the purchase of the Owl Creek and Baker Coal Mines in 1904 the Black Diamond Mine was formed and existed until about the late 1930's. For more on Sheridan area coal mining read: "Black Diamonds of Sheridan" by Stanley A. Kuzara at your local library.
