Horsin' Around the Historic Sheridan Inn

Six year old "Manifest Destiny" was seen Wednesday bathing in the morning sunlight on the porch of the Sheridan Inn. "Manifest Destiny" was painted in 2005 by Upton, Wyoming artist Karen Barton for a Gillette Easter Seals fund raising auction. Sometime later Dick Weber of Sheridan purchased and donated this work of art to the the Historic Sheridan Inn where it now proudly stands on the southeast corner of the porch. As I understand it Easter Seals of Sheridan conducted a painted horse benefit auction in 2005 and because of its success was followed in 2006 with one in Gillette. "Manifest Destiny," whose name generates controversy in some circles because of imperialistic expansion - the 19th-century doctrine that the United States had the right and duty to expand throughout the North American continent, was a result of the Gillette auction benefit and thanks to Mr. Weber now resides in Sheridan. As a side note the artist Karen Barton had lost track of "Manifest Destiny" and was pleased to learn that her work of art now graces the porch at the Sheridan Inn.
