David Peter Filbert

David Peter Filbert passed from this earth to his heavenly home on Monday, February 27, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. David died at the VA Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

David was born on March 4, 1941 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Peter and Betty (Neuenschwander) Filbert. He attended schools in Sheridan, graduating with the Class of '59. He then attended Sheridan Junior college prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air force where he was a Small Arms Instructor, then transferred to the field of medicine, becoming a Laboratory Scientist.

David served in the U.S. Air Force in San Antonio, TX; Tucson, AZ; and Goosebay, Labrador.

On September 18, 1964, David married the love of his life - his best friend, Janet Artist. The two shared their lives on a ranch at Parkman and on a ranch in Dayton where Dave made many friends while working as a ranch hand and irrigator; in Gillette where Dave was an X-Ray technician and Laboratory Supervisor at the Campbell County Hospital; in Buffalo where he was an X-Ray Technician and Laboratory Supervisor at the Johnson County Healthcare Center until the time of his retirement in November, 2000; and enjoyed his retirement years living in Sheridan.

Dave's occupations also included working at the Whedon Cancer Clinic, and he was also employed at the old Coca-Cola bottling plant in Sheridan.

David was the first organizer for the EMT classes held in Buffalo in the early 1970s. David and Janet volunteered their summers between 1981 and 1989 to be Forest Service Campground Hosts at the south Fork Campground above Buffalo.

Since 2002 Dave and Janet have tremendously enjoyed spending summers at the Elk Horn trailer Park in the Big Horn Mountains where they could fish and get close to nature at their "little piece of heaven on earth". Artifact hunting was a hobby Dave thoroughly enjoyed, while walking through the meadows and admiring the beauty of his surroundings.

He is known as "speedy" to his Wal-Mart friends because of his daily fast walks around the store in the fall and winter months. He had a contagious laugh and many friends.

David is proceeded in death by his parents and loving wife, Janet.

He is survived b his daughter, Tammy Big Day (Jace) of Prior, MT.; his sons, Curtis (Oana) Filbert of Suisun City, CA.; David "Dink" Williams of Cartright, Labrador; Kevin (Debbie) Filbert of Buffalo; his brothers, Ron of Gillette, John of Nebraska, Greg of Sheridan; his grandchildren, Keshia, Katrina, Kade and Kasen Filbert of Buffalo; Amanda, Elizabeth and Candace Filbert of Edwall, WA; Chad, Dylan and Beth of Cartright, Labrador; great-grandkids, Cruz and Kezra Morales and Kendyll Cummins of Buffalo and sisters-in-law Carol Graham and Donna Schwartz of Sheridan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
