Buffalo and Johnson County are dealing with COVID-19 numbers, although to a lesser extent than neighboring cities and counties.

As of Thursday, there were 77 lab-confirmed cases in the county and four hospitalizations from COVID.

The Johnson County School District, due to positive COVID cases and close-contact quarantine has 3.2% of staff members out (from 250 staff members) and 1.4% of students out (from 1,200 total students).

At the August school board meeting, Superintendent Charles Auzqui said they continue to have weekly meetings of the task force to help keep the community informed.

He is also looking into implementing COVID leave (5 to 10 days) for staff and

has asked the Wyoming Department of Health if there may be COVID funds to support leave for districts.

Masks are not required for students or staff at Johnson County Schools at this time, although that could change with some factors, according to an earlier release by the task force.

The Johnson County COVID Task Force will look at a variety of factors including the number of cases in the community, the number of students and staff in isolation or quarantine at one time, and the number of people hospitalized.

The Task Force includes representatives from the Johnson County School District, Johnson County Healthcare Center, Johnson County Public Health, Johnson County Emergency Management and Sheridan College in Johnson County.
