The gift of 26 acres of land that includes a 25,000 square-foot building has been a shot in the arm to Sheridan College.

That’s the word from Dr. Walt Tribley, president of the Northern Wyoming Community College District, which includes Sheridan College.

The land, and building, were donated to the college last summer. The land is on the east side of Interstate 90 – very close to Sheridan College, Dr. Tribley said – and the college’s construction technology programs started using the land and building this year.

Dr. Tribley said the gift was from Casey Osborn, former CEO of Emit, and was the former site of Emit’s shop.

Tribley said he doesn’t know how much of the construction technology has been inside the building and how much outside at this time. Sheridan College’s construction technology program has been very involved, he said, in working with Habitat for Humanity.

But when the weather turns bad, construction can be shut down, and having a building in which houses can be constructed means the college program can keep going no matter what the weather.

Tribley said he’s talked with Osborn, and both Osborn and the college share a vision of bringing to Sheridan a place where construction and other technologies can flourish, grow and keep pace with the growth of the Sheridan community.
