During the period earlier this year for interested parties to file for elected offices in Johnson County, no one stepped up to file for the two seats available for the Buffalo City Council.

The procedure is for voters in the county to write-in candidates for the positions.

County Clerk Vicki Edelman explains how the process works.

She said anyone can be written in on the primary election ballots, including those who may not be aware that their names were added, until they find out after the election.

They then have the option of accepting or turning down the nomination.

Edelman said with two seats available on the city council, the top four candidates with the most votes will move forward to the general election, so there are two candidates per seat on the ballot.
