The new aquatics center at the Sheridan County YMCA is nearing completion and scheduled to open early next year, which will finish the process that began with fundraising and design work a few years ago.

That is according to Executive Director Liz Cassiday, who was a recent guest on our talk show Public Pulse.

Cassiday said the current pools at the Y at at the end of their lifespan, and the new aquatics center will replace those, which will then be removed.

She tells us about some of the features that will be in the new aquatics center.

Another feature, she said, will be a climbing wall that kids can climb up and then fall back into the pool.

Locker rooms will also be part of the new center.

Cassiday explained that the process began nearly five years ago with fundraising and design work, then progressed to drilling of piers two years ago.
The pools themselves were poured last summer, and the building has been constructed around the pools.

The opening of the new aquatics center is scheduled for January of 2020.
