Year in Review: May-August

We continue our Year in Review series today with a look back at some of the top stories for 2017. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter recaps May through August.

In May, Sheridan County Commissioners elected Allen Thompson as Sheriff, as longtime Sheriff Dave Hofmeier announced earlier in the year that he would be retiring. Thompson said that he was honored to be selected to serve as Sheridan County Sheriff.

In June, Sheridan’s own Cheyenne Buyert was crowned Miss Wyoming.

In July, a 2-year-old Sheridan boy was struck by a train near the railroad crossing on 1st Street. The child is expected to make a full recovery and no charges to date, have been filed in regard to the incident. In August, a fire to a home north of Sheridan on Decker Road completely destroyed the structure. Sheridan Fire-Rescue Firefighter EMT John Syring said the homeowner and her dog made it out safely.

We’ll conclude our Year in Review series Friday, with a look back at some of the top stories for September through December.
