Wyoming Trooper Gets 15 Years In Prison

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A former Wyoming state trooper has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for kidnapping a truck driver in what prosecutors say was an aborted murder plot.Federal judge Alan B. Johnson said Friday he regarded Franklin Joseph Ryle's plan as half-baked. But the judge said there was no doubt his offense was serious and required a significant sentence. The 42-year-old Ryle pleaded guilty in July to charges he violated the civil rights of Wal-Mart trucker Richard Smidt by pulling him over and kidnapping him in January near Douglas. Ryle also admitted to carrying a firearm during the crime, a factor that added a mandatory five years to his sentence.
Ryle has said he intended to stage an accident involving the truck and his patrol car to try to get a settlement from Wal-Mart. Prosecutors have said he intended to murder the driver, but Ryle ultimately released him unharmed.

15 years? you have got to be

15 years? you have got to be kidding me! This person plots to use his position to kidnap and murder a citizen and gets 15 years? Perhaps it is time for the pitchforks to come out next election day!

I don't blame anyone who

I don't blame anyone who thinks he deserved more time. But, he was sentenced by a federal judge. Not sure how getting mad at the next election is going to have any impact.

this is some scary stuff

Not enough time!

15 years is not enough time for this joker! Not only did he do more damage to the Highway patrols reputaion than they could ever imagined they will always have doubt cast on them. They should have stuck this guy in the slammer for 75 years! That is what any other citizen would have received for the same lame brain plan!
