Wyoming Requests Waiver From U.S. Dept. of Education

Last week, the Wyoming Department of Education petitioned the U.S. Secretary of Education to waive nationally established educational requirements.

State superintendent of public instruction, Cindy Hill, explains why she endorsed requesting the waiver.

Hill said one of the stipulations that hasn't been establshed here is the requirement of linking student performance to teacher evaluations.

Hill said she has an alternative accountability plan that will allow the state to have the same flexibility other states have. Wyoming's waiver request was similar to those already submitted by Maine and New Hampshire in February.
