SEATTLE _ Winter weather pounded a swath of the U.S. West on Monday, closing schools, snarling traffic and turning coastal cities like Seattle that rarely get much snow unusually white, while the Midwest warmed up from a dangerous blast of cold last week. It comes as parts of California and Montana brace for the threat of mudslides and avalanches and the middle of the country grapples with the fallout from the polar vortex. The weather was warmer near Yellowstone National Park, but the fresh snow that fell on the weak snowpack in the mountains near the park led to avalanche warnings.

UNBORN CHILD-CRIME _ A bill that would have imposed separate penalties for the death of an unborn child during a crime against a pregnant woman has failed in the Wyoming Senate.

BANK ROBBERY _ Police are looking for a man who held up a Wyoming bank on Monday.

XGR-MEDICAID-WORK _ A proposal that would put work requirements on certain Medicaid and food assistance recipients in Wyoming has passed the state Senate.

XGR-ENERGY _ Several proposals that would raise taxes on wind energy in Wyoming have died in the state Legislature.

PRISON WORKER SENTENCED _ A 31-year-old former Wyoming State Penitentiary worker has received probation for having a sexual relationship with an inmate in 2015
