Wyoming Needs More 'Money-Back Guarantees'

(WY NEWS SERVICE) -- A new report says that Wyoming ranks near the bottom of the country in making sure that tax-payer-funded economic development subsidies used for businesses actually create good-paying jobs for citizens.

Some states have systems in place that create “money-back guarantees”. “Good Jobs First” report author, Phillip Mattera says the public should demand accountability on the issue.

Dan Neal is with the Equality State Policy Center. He says subsidies are good for the economy and are responsible in making sure taxpayer money is well-spent.

Wyoming ranked 45th in the study. States were judged on requirements related to job creation job quality and other performance measures. States were also judged on whether or not they had measures in place that levy penalties when businesses to standards they promised. Vermont, North Carolina and Nevada ranked the highest in enforcing job creation and quality in those jobs through requirements.
