Wyoming Medical Teams Prepare to Head for Haiti

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Some 40 medical professionals from Wyoming have volunteered to help out in earthquake ravaged Haiti.

The coordinator of the Wyoming-based relief project, Jill Hendricks, says the volunteers include orthopedic surgeons, infectious disease experts, trauma nurses and surgeons from all around the state. She says they will begin traveling to Haiti when relief organizations inside the country are ready to receive them. That could happen anytime between today and February 10th.

St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Casper initially hoped to send a 9- person orthopedic surgery team to assist in Haiti. Because so many people volunteered for the effort, the church now plans to send several groups that can address a variety of medical needs.
