Wyoming to Join Federal Health Law Challenge

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming will join Florida and other states in a federal lawsuit challenging the federal health care reform law enacted last year. Governor Matt Mead announced Friday that Wyoming will file on Monday to join the lawsuit. Florida and some 20 other states already are challenging the constitutionality of the federal Health Care Reform Act.

Mead says it's unconstitutional for the law to impose financial penalties on citizens who don't have health insurance by 2014. A Republican, Mead pledged to get Wyoming into the lawsuit during his gubernatorial campaign last year.

Former Democratic Governor Dave Freudenthal had refused to enter the lawsuit. He said Wyoming would be bound by whatever the federal courts decide so there was no reason to pay for the legal fight.
