Wyoming Economy is Strong, But Lacks Diversity

Headwaters Economics released a report Thursday showing Wyoming's economy is relatively healthy when compared to other western states, but is largely dependent solely on the energy industry. The study, titled “West is Best,” compared jobs, income and population changes in relevance to public lands, parks, and National Forests. Ben Alexander, associate director, says other states in the region are seeing economic diversification taking place around the west, but the state of Wyoming has been slower to follow suit.

Overall, the report confirms Wyoming is economically healthy because of the energy market. The study also reports the Cowboy State fares better than other states in the nation during tough economic times because the state saves money for when times get tough.

The study showed a clear relationship between public land space and job growth.
