WREN Foundation Puts Books in Children’s Hands

The WREN Foundation strives to enhance the lives of children from birth to 5 years of age and their families in order to create systemic change aimed at the whole child. One of the ways the nonprofit is able to accomplish this goal, is by providing children in Sheridan County with a book a month according to founder of WREN Marie Lowe.

Lowe said that one of the biggest obstacles to a child’s school success is a lack of exposure to the written word in the early years of their life. One study showed that children who start school with little exposure to literacy often stay behind in reading for their entire schooling. Lowe said the study also concluded that the lack of exposure also directly correlated to high school dropout rates.

Over 400 children and families are currently enrolled in the County. More than 1100 books have been distributed since inception last November. To sign up your child, go to www.imaginationlibrary.org.
