Woman Faces Possible Kidnapping Charges

A woman has been taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping of her own biological child. Sgt. Travis Koltiska of the Sheridan Police Department confirmed the identity of the woman as Destiny Pyke, who at one time lived in the Sheridan/Johnson County area. He said she is being held in Spokane, Washington, but has not yet been formally charged.

He said the incident was first reported on Monday as a custodial interference case, when the biological mother took her 6-year-old daughter from the child's grandparents in Sheridan who are the child's legal guardians. The case escalated to kidnapping later in the week, he said, when authorities realized the mother had taken the child out of state and did not intend to return. During an interview this morning, the police sergeant gave the details.

Also during the interview, he said a warrant had been issued for the woman's arrest, but she had not been arraigned in court. He said the grandparents were on their way to pick up the child and bring her back home to Sheridan.
