Woman Enters Plea After Embezzling From Local Parent-Teacher Organization

A woman charged with taking over $7,000 from a local parent-teacher organization was arraigned in 4th Judicial District Court Tuesday. 35-year-old Angela Meckle entered a guilty plea on one count of larceny by bailee. Meckle was president of the Coffeen Elementary School PTO in October 2007 and August 2008 when the crimes took place.

Late in 2007 the PTO had a fundraising campaign involving a pie sale that raised over $24,000 and Meckle had diverted over $6,000 in cash to her own personal use. The discrepancy was discovered when trying to calculate the payout to the promoter and the PTO bank account didn’t have enough money in it. The second count stems from an incident last year where Meckle wrote a $1,400 check to cash for that she also used personally.

Meckle’s plea was entered as part of a plea agreement and as a result the state dismissed the second count. District Court Judge John Fenn ordered a pre-sentence investigation and Meckle is scheduled for sentencing this November.
