Wilkerson Found Guilty of Second Degree Murder

The jury in the case of the State of Wyoming vs. Richard Wilkerson returned a verdict of “guilty” of second degree murder at roughly 9pm Saturday night.

Wilkerson was found guilty of killing 45 year-old Brian Newman in an altercation at the Century Club in Buffalo last September.

The jury had been given the case for deliberation at about 1pm Saturday afternoon after closing arguments by both the defense and prosecution.

Judge William J. Edelman has ordered a pre-sentencing investigation to be conducted and sentencing will be scheduled after the investigation is completed.

Wilkerson faces a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of life in prison when he is sentenced.

We will have a more detailed story on Monday.
