Wildfire Near Buffalo 100 Percent Contained

A wildfire burning since Saturday northwest of Buffalo through timber over steep terrain near the north fork of Shell Creek was expected to be 100 percent contained by late yesterday.

Emergency management coordinator Marilyn Connolly of Johnson County clarified that contained does not mean the Twin Peaks Fire is out. She said fire crews were still finding hot spots. Fire danger remains high, she said, because of extremely dry conditions, but the fire is not threatening any structures. Smoke buster crews fighting the fire were expected to be released today. She said the fire, which has claimed nearly 42 acres, will continue to be monitored. Investigators have determined it was human caused.
