Wyoming State Troopers discovered 23 pounds of marijuana in a false compartment of a pickup truck during a routine traffic stop on Monday. The driver, 38-year-old William Ritter of Virginia, was pulled over for speeding on Highway 287, six miles south of Laramie.

While visiting with Ritter about the traffic offense, the trooper could smell the drugs and noticed some cannabis in plain sight in the cab of the truck. Upon searching the vehicle, troopers found a false floor had been installed in the bed of the truck, and inside was numerous containers with user amounts of marijuana, scales, a grinder and a pipe.

The street value of the shipment is estimated at $138,000. Ritter is charged with felony posession of a controlled substance in plant form, intent to distribute and conspiracy to deliver. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and $250,000 in fines.
