Whitney Benefits Supports Fire Science Program

A partnership between Sheridan College, Whitney Benefits and Sheridan County School District #1 has enabled the School District to create a new fire science program. A gift from Whitney in the amount of $9,702.50 provided the equipment to certify students and enable them to apply for employment with organizations such as the BLM, National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

After completing the program, students earn a red card certification, qualifying them to become a wildland firefighter. Whitney President Tom Kinnison.

The program is available to students 18 years of age or older at Big Horn and Tongue River High School. The curriculum is one semester long and is part of the students regular school day.
