Due to inclement weather, the Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed US 14A west of Burgess Junction for the winter.

The closure went into effect Tuesday at 11 am. The seasonal closure was originally scheduled for Thursday at noon, but recent snowfall led to the decision to close the road earlier than planned.

Due to heavy snows and light traffic during the winter months, WYDOT seasonally closes the 22-mile stretch of road in the Bighorn Mountains at the end of the fall hunting season. Seasonal road closure gates are located at Burgess Junction and on the Lovell side of the mountain. During the time the road is closed, motorists can use US 14 via Granite Pass and Greybull as an alternative route from Sheridan to Lovell. WYDOT will open US 14A next spring after crews spend a projected three weeks to remove the winter snowpack on the road.
