Government mandated upgrades to safeguard against cryptosporidium and giardia is something that the Town of Dayton has been working on at their water treatment plant. Mayor Bob Wood says that they have tried to stay ahead of the game since the upgrades have to be completed in the next few years.

Wood indicated that the upgrades are nearly complete, they are just waiting for the results of some future tests.

The Environmental Protection Agency has mandated that all municipalities upgrade their water treatment system by the summer of 2013 to eliminate the risk of giardia and cryptosporidium.
