The City of Sheridan approved a water and sewer rate increase as part of their budget resolution for Fiscal Year 2011-2012 that was adopted by the City Council this past summer.

July 1st, the beginning of the City's fiscal year, customers incurred a $5.00 increase to their water and sewer bill. When that increase was approved, it also called for a an additional $5.00 increase to be implemented July 1st, 2012.

Monday night, at the request of City Utilities Director Dan Roberts, the Council voted to move the July 1st increase to December 1st of this year. Roberts says it's a minor policy change that will benefit the customers.

Roberts explains that switching the rate increase from July of next summer to December 1st of this year means that customers shouldn't expect another adjustment for some time.

Moving the rate adjustment up 7 months also means that the increase customers will receive will be lower, as it will now be $4.16, as opposed to the $5.00 raise in rates that was scheduled to take place next summer.
