With more than 180 employees and sales across the U.S. and in several other countries, Vacutech is an economic presence in Sheridan, according to Don Parrott, who's the company's controller.

Parrott was among those who led tours of the plant on Hi-Tech Drive Friday during observance of Manufacturing Day in Sheridan.

Nate Williams, who's the company's director of manufacturing, said the Hi-Tech Drive plant is the main facility in Sheridan, but the company leases or rents four other facilities elsewhere in the city.

Vacutech makes vacuums for car washes, but Parrott said they aren't the small coin-operated units but are, rather, big central units such as the one at Let'Er Buck car wash in Sheridan – which, indeed, came from Vacutech.

During the tour of the plant, Parrott said Vacutech makes nearly everything related to the vacuums, in particular the arch, which Vacutech innovated and which keeps hoses off the ground.

Parrott said Vacutech shipped 14,000 units out last month.

He said the power equipment is produced off-site. That's the turbine, which moves the air, and the separator, which separates light debris from the air flow. Parrott said every turbine is tested before it goes out.

Not a lot of employees were around during Friday's tour, and Parrott said that's because Fridays are Vacutech's “catch-up” days when fewer people are needed at work.
