VA Identifies 6 Pillars To End Vet Homelessness

Earlier this week, Sheridan Media reported how the local Veterans Affairs hospital is joining national efforts to end homelessness among veterans. Will Banks, a social worker at the VA medical center and ke organizer in the homeless vets program, said the organization has identified six areas for assessment and rehabilitation to use to address the problem of veteran homelessness.

Banks said Sheridan's problem of homeless vets isn't as big as it is in other areas of the country, but the facility here is also responsible for larger spans of area. This creates unique challenges.

Banks said the local homeless shelter sees veterans from wars throughout the decades, from Vietnam all the way up to the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, he said most homeless vets in this area are from the post-Vietnam era.
