The University of Wyoming's Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center recently received certification for the center's environmentally friendly and people friendly building features. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rating system program (LEED) awarded the Berry Center with gold-level certification.

Biodiversity Institute Director, Carlos Martinez del Rio, describes some of the Berry Center's award-winning features - and their benefits.

In addition to its living roof, the Berry Center has sustainable features such as locally sourced building materials, ventilating the building with natural air, landscaping with native or adapted vegetation and a method to recover energy from building exhaust.
