Ucross Receives Grant to Support Emerging Writers

The Ucross artist residency program has received a grant of $20,000 from the Amazon Literary Partnership program to support two writing residencies in the Ucross fall 2019 session.

The grant will support emerging writers Juan Alvarado Valdivia and Sophie He.

Valdivia is a Peruvian-American writer of fiction, born in Guadalajara, Mexico, and raised in California, and He is a nonfiction writer who lives and works between Los Angeles and St. Louis, Missouri.

The Amazon Literary Partnership program provides grants to organizations like Ucross that support working writers by giving them the resources they need to tell their stories and find their readers.

Since being established in 1981, Ucross has provided more than 2,100 residencies to writers as well as visual artists and composers.

Ucross President Sharon Dynak said the organization is honored to be chosen by Amazon to receive the grant and especially thrilled that Amazon recognizes Ucross's commitment to welcome artists from all backgrounds at all stages of their careers.
