Ucross Fellowship Winners Featured in Show

An inaugural exhibition featuring the work of winners of the newly established Ucross Fellowship for Native American Visual Artists opened Monday in the art gallery at Ucross.

The show, “Intricate Form: Brenda Mallory + Sydney Pursel,” will be on view through September 28.

Mallory is a member of the Cherokee National and Pursel of the Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska. They are the first two recipients of the Native American Fellowship and both were in residence at Ucross in 2018.

A reception with artist talks by Mallory and Pursel is set for June 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery, and is open free to the public.

The multidisciplinary exhibition includes works on paper, video, installation and sculpture. The Museum of Art at Fort Collins, Colorado, presented the exhibition from Jan. 18 to March 17, and the University of Wyoming art department will feature the work in its gallery in summer 2020.
