Tuba Christmas is Saturday

The 19th annual Tuba Christmas will be this weekend at Sheridan's Holiday Inn.

Under direction of Ariel Downing, the event starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Downing said Tuba Christmas is a world-wide phenomenon.

Downer said she does Tuba Christmas to honor her teachers. She said most of those who play tuba as an adult got their start in a school or church band.

She said participants also like to get together, decorate their tubas, play Christmas carols, and have a good time together.

Downing said she plans the event for the last Saturday before Christmas. By that time, she said, the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Christmas is over, and people can come to Tuba Christmas, relax and enjoy the holiday season.
