PJ Treide, owner of Bighorn Design Studio, was named the business person of the year Wednesday during the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

He was one of six Excellence Award recipients honored during the event. In addition to the business person of the year, awards included key service, spirit of Sheridan, strength of Sheridan, large business excellence and small business excellence. A small business is one with fewer than 25 full-time employees, and large business was defined as one with 25 or more full-time employees.

The narrator of a video on the nominee for each award stated that Treide bought Bighorn Design Studio recently.

The Spirit of Sheridan Award was presented posthumously to Janet Shepherd, former receptionist for the Chamber of Commerce, who died last month. Ken Thorpe, a member of the Chamber's board of directors and himself a nominee for the award, said Shepherd was a beautiful woman.

The Food Group, an organization that started in 2010 to provide food on the weekends for children in need, received the Key Service Award, and King's Saddlery was the Strength of Sheridan Award winner. Don King started his saddlemaking career in 1946 and launched King's Saddlery in 1953. The business moved to its current location in 1972.

The Small Business Excellence Award was presented to the Paint Post, which opened in March 2015, and the Large Business Excellence Award was presented to First Federal Bank and Trust, which has been in the community since 1935. Chamber CEO Dixie Johnson said award winners are chosen by the entire Chamber membership.
