Tongue River Cave is Temporarily Closed

A popular cave in Sheridan County has been closed temporarily. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Tongue River Cave in the Bighorn National Forest west of Dayton has been closed temporarily due to a recent discovery of a maternal colony of Townsend’s big-eared bats in the cave. Wyoming Game and Fish Public Information Specialist Tina Schmidt.

Schmidt says that the bats are fairly uncommon in Wyoming and explains why the cave has been temporarily closed.

Schmidt said that she expects that the Forest Service will make an announcement when there is a change regarding the closure of the cave.
