Today is National Flag Day, and Sheridan Media's Ron Richter has more on how this day came to be.

On this day in 1777, the Second Continental Congress, by resolution, adopted the flag of the United States. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that established June, 14th as Flag Day. While many communities across the Country celebrated Flag Day every year in some form or fashion following Wilson's proclamation, it didn't become official until 1949 when an act of Congress designated today as National Flag Day.

Flag Day originated in 1885 in the town of Waubeka, Wisconsin, when schoolteacher BJ Cigrand held the first recognized formal observance of Flag Day at the Stony Hill School. On June 14th, 2004, the 108th U.S. Congress voted unanimously on H.R. 662, that Flag Day did indeed originate in Waubeka.
