Funds for three projects in Sheridan are included in the supplemental budget that legislators will be asked to consider in their upcoming session.

Rep. Mark Kinner said construction of the John C. Schiffer Collaborative School and two Sheridan College construction projects have all been recommended for funding.

Kinner said he will be following all three projects very closely and will try to do what he can to ensure all three projects are funded.

The Schiffer School, being built by Sheridan County School District 2, would be sited on land that formerly belonged to Sheridan College and is planned to eventually serve as an alternative high school to all three Sheridan County school districts and the Johnson County School District.

Sheridan College's health science building includes the nursing and dental hygiene programs, and the culinary arts program prepares students for careers in the hospitality industry.

Kinner said the state would pay about half of the construction costs for the two college buildings – about $6.7 million for health science and $2.2 million for the culinary arts addition and renovations. The state would pay 100 percent of the cost for the Schiffer school, an estimated $8.8 million.
