Ruth Martin tried for three years to get a scholarship to fund her participation in the Wyoming Women's Antelope Hunt, and this year her tenacity paid off.

She's one of the 46 women participating in the 2019 Women's Antelope Hunt at the Ranch at Ucross. Martin said she found out about the scholarship on Tuesday, and that set some preparations in motion.

Other than that, the Sheridan woman said, she felt she was pretty well prepared to join the hunt. She said she loves the outdoors, and she's been wanting to get into hunting for quite a while.

She didn't get an antelope on Friday, but she was hopeful that she'd succeed during Saturday's hunt. And even though she didn't get anything Friday, she still enjoyed the day.

Martin said she's lived in Sheridan for four years. She moved here from California.
