SUV Driver Cited in Collision With Bus

The juvenile driver of a sport utility vehicle was cited for careless driving after a collision with a school bus on West Fifth Street Wednesday.

Sheridan Police Lt. Tom Ringley said cell phone usage was a factor in the incident. A Rocky Mountain Ambulance crew was called to the scene and report transporting one person to Sheridan Memorial Hospital, but according to the police report, there were no injuries.

No additional information can be obtained because of federal privacy laws, but Steve Schlicting, who is the transportation director for Sheridan County School District 2, said neither the bus driver nor any of the children were injured in the collision. School District 2 owns the bus involved.

The collision happened shortly before 4 o'clock in the 500 block of East Fifth Street near the Sheridan Avenue intersection. The transportation director said the bus was undamaged except for dent marks on the back bumper. He said school buses are designed to withstand most collisions. The bus was back in service as of Thursday morning.
