Structure Fire Under Investigation

No injuries were reported in a structure fire in the 500 block of North Sheridan Avenue earlier this week.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Sheridan Fire Chief Terry Lenhart said the blaze appeared to be accidental. He said the fire was reported shortly before 6:30 Monday night, and when firefighters arrived, smoke was showing from the attic and eaves, and the fire extended from the basement to the attic and was burning through the roof.

The house was being remodeled and was unoccupied at the time of the fire, but a dog was in the back yard. The fire chief said Sheridan police took charge of the animal. In addition to Sheridan Fire and Rescue, the Goose Valley Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call, along with police and Rocky Mountain Ambulance. The chief said about 25 firefighters were on the scene.

He said the main fire was knocked down within about 10 minutes of crews arriving, but firefighters remained on the scene for about three hours to ensure the blaze was under control.
