Second Chance Sheridan Cat Rescue Program Director Rachel Kristiansen and Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter Executive Director Julie Chadwick presented the Sheridan City Council with some facts and figures about the feral and stray cat problem in Sheridan, and Sheridan County.

The presentation was made Monday night at a Council study session at City Hall. Kristiansen said the stray cat population continues to grow throughout the area.

Kristiansen said that there are about 9 specific areas in the community where the cat populations are reaching numbers that can create public health issues for people and other animals. She talked about some of the reasons why the overpopulation problem has escalated so quickly.

Kristiansen said that they would like to implement a Trap-Neuter-Return program to help stabilize and reduce the cat populations. We’ll have more on the proposed collaborative T-N-R for you in a future story.
