Steady Progress Made on Fires in the Bighorns

Additional resources arrived, and steady progress was made Friday on the eight lightning caused fires on the Bighorn National Forest. Fire crews with the Bighorn National Forest were reinforced Friday by 3 hot shot crews, additional smoke jumpers and a helicopter. A fire line was established around several of the fires and mop up will continue through Saturday.

The largest of the fires, the West Pass Fire was at 12 acres in size. The other fires all remained at less than one acre. All of the fires are located in the northern area of the forest and were ignited by a series of thunderstorms that moved through the area Thursday afternoon. While there are no fire restrictions in place on the Bighorn National Forest, District Ranger Clarke McClung said that forest visitors need to be careful while on the mountain as the fire danger remains “Very High”.
