A Wyoming state trooper was injured Monday afternoon in a two vehicle crash on US Highway 14/16/20, west of Cody at the entrance of Yellowstone Valley Inn. His name was not released by the state highway patrol.

According to the patrol’s news release, the trooper was traveling eastbound when the driver of an oncoming tractor trailer rig turned in front of him into the entrance of the inn. The trooper did avoid a head-on collision by braking and swerving to the right.

The force of the crash pushed the patrol vehicle into the ditch and pinned the trooper inside. Motorists did stop to help the trooper, but the trooper ultimately had to be extricated from the vehicle by the local fire department. The trooper suffered non life-threatening injuries and is expected to be released today from the hospital in Cody. The truck driver was not injured in the crash. No citation was issued and the crash remains under investigation.
